Larry Liebovitch, PhD
Interim Director, Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences at Florida Atlantic University
Dr. Liebovitch is Interim Director of Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences at Florida Atlantic University, where he also has appointments in the Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and the Departments of Psychology and Biomedical Science. He has used complex systems, including fractals, chaos, neural networks, and other nonlinear methods to study molecular, cellular, physiological and psychological systems.
These studies have provided insights into the structure and motion of ion channel proteins in the cell membrane, the timing of heart attacks, the interactions of genes in causing disease, the pattern of artifacts founding archeological sites, the spread of e-mail viruses among computers and the spread of infectious diseases among people. He coauthored the book Fractal Physiology with J.B. Bassingthwaighte and B.J. West, and wrote Fractals and Chaos: Simplified for the Life Sciences. He also authored The Mathematics and Science of Fractals CD-ROM.
